Plan a Visit
These steps are for you if either your primary veterinarian has referred you to us or you would just like to call us and make an appointment.
Step 1
Call us at 401-885-1163 with any questions you have or to schedule an appointment. Our hours are Monday–Thursday 8:30–5, and we are closed Friday–Sunday.
After you make an appointment, we will contact your veterinarian to obtain your pet’s medical records and history.
Step 2
Fill out these two forms online prior to your visit: (1) Client information form and (2) Dermatology history form
(If you would rather print the forms and fill them out by hand, you can find them both here.)
Step 3
If possible, do not bathe your pet for 1 week before your appointment so as not to disrupt the skin prior to the examination.
Visit us at 2740 South County Trail, East Greenwich, RI 02818, at your scheduled appointment time.
Please understand that only 1 client (person) per patient (animal) will be allowed into the building. (We also ask that friend and sibling dogs stay home.)
Initial consultations last approximately one hour. During that appointment, Dr. Tapp will go over the history with you, examine your pet and conduct testing if needed. A treatment plan will then be established. Sometimes, additional appointments are needed for further testing. Your appointment slot will include time to fill out paperwork and meet with a veterinary technician.
Most dermatology problems require lifelong management. Thus, recheck appointments are often necessary to have Dr. Tapp reevaluate your pet and determine if the treatment plan is working. Recheck appointments last 30-45 minutes. Your veterinarian will be updated throughout the process with letters from Dr. Tapp explaining your pet's condition and the treatment protocol. Your veterinarian may also be involved in follow-up care as needed.
When making appointments, please be aware that it may take several weeks to get in to see Dr. Tapp. If for any reason, you must cancel an appointment, please call us within 48 hours as a courtesy to others seeking appointments and to prevent a cancellation fee. We do ask for a credit card to hold new appointments.
“When my local veterinarian was not able to figure out the cause of my puppy’s major hair loss and scabbing, I was referred to Veterinary Healing Arts. That proved to be the very best decision. Dr. Tapp started treating my puppy and she started improving instantly. Dr. Tapp and her entire staff are super friendly and very compassionate people. You can tell they love what they do and the animals they care for. We felt like family the minute we walked through the door.”
